Hennepin Avenue S. & W. 26th Street
In the early-1990s, The Ackerberg Group purchased a dilapidated garage on Hennepin Avenue in the Uptown area of Minneapolis. The structure was on the brink of demolition, as parts of its roof had collapsed and there were all sorts of structural issues. At the time, few developers were interested in urban development opportunities, however The Ackerberg Group wanted to breathe life back into the property.
The Ackerberg Group demolished a section of the building to create parking in the otherwise congested area. The building received a full renovation, essentially making new space while utilizing parts of the existing structure where possible. By incorporating the existing structure, The Ackerberg Group was able to reduce costs and environmental impact of the new construction.
A hint of the past still exists, as part of the existing structure on the south end of the building was used as a retaining wall.
The Ackerberg Group owned and managed the property until 2001.
